How to Clean Your PS4 PRO and PS4 Slim

f you are interested in cleaning out your PS4 and PS4 Pro, you will need to use some force to open up the console. First, unplug your PS4 and place it on a flat surface. Grasp the bottom front of the console’s top with your fingertips and gently pull it towards you. Tug on one corner, then the other corner, and alternate until the top plastic part breaks free.

You will need to break the initial seal which will make a surprisingly loud noise. If you cannot break the seal, you may need to flex the outside plastic parts to get around the pieces holding it on, but the PlayStation is designed to allow people to do so. Once the fan is exposed, use a can of air to clean it out. Be sure to dust any other intake areas where dust can get trapped. Finally, pop the cowling back on and you will be done.

How to Clean Your Original PS4

The hardest part of cleaning the original PS4 is getting the top of the console off. You will need a special screwdriver to take off the T8 Torx part. PS4 owners must get bits to unscrew the Torx nuts on the back of the PS4. These types of specialized screwdrivers are available on Amazon. Once you have secured the correct screwdriver, unplug all cables from your PS4. Place it on a flat, smooth surface. Remove three screws along the bottom of the console. These are the only screws on the bottom half of the device. Do not unscrew these screws unless you are prepared to void your warranty.

Put the screws away in a secure position. Flip the PS4 upside down. Next, remove the plastic cowling. You will be able to easily tip it up from the back, sliding it forward slighting to clear some of the sharp edges. The fan will now become exposed. Use the canned air to clean it from every single angle. Clean out the grills along the right and left sides of the console, as well. Place the cowling back on when you are done spraying canned air and then screw the screws back in.

Organizing Your PlayStation 4 Apps and Games

While the menu of the PS4 is intuitive to use, organizing games and apps can be helpful. When families share a PlayStation 4, creating a folder for each player in the family is a great way to avoid confusion. While you are in the menu section, select an application, then press the “options” button and choose “Add to Folder” from the selection on the side panel. Then, put the app in an existing folder or add a new folder and label it accordingly.

Set a Custom PlayStation 4 Background

New PlayStation owners might not know that you can take screenshots of the games that you own. You can then select one of your screenshots and make it the background of your PS4 home screen. Users can also customize their drop shadows on the text to make the entire screen more readable. Taking the time to customize your PS4 screen can add fun to your gameplay.

Utilize the PlayStation Mobile App

Playstation owners can utilize the Mobile App by Playstation which has plenty of desirable features. Users can use it for seeing what friends are playing, purchasing games, or as a keyboard or remote for your PS4. Typing on your phone in the app is much faster than attempting to use the PlayStation 4 controller to type in instructions.

Customize Your Button Assignment

PlayStation 4 owners can remap their buttons within their PlayStation application. Doing so will make your game even better as you will be able to quickly get to your most-used buttons. To make these changes, go to Settings then Accessibility, and then Button Assignments.

Keep Your Playstation in a Clean Area

One of the best ways to ensure that your PlayStation has a long life is to keep it in a dry, safe area. Make sure that the fan has access to open-air so it does not become overheated. PlayStations sometimes overheat in entertainment cabinets. After playing games for an hour or so, touch the PlayStation to make sure it is not overheating. Do not keep your PlayStation anywhere near where a drink might spill on it. Also, be sure to dust your PlayStation once a month and clean out the fan so that debris will not build up and cause problems.
