Five Common TV Repairs

Many of us enjoy watching our smart televisions, and many of us will be taking advantage of Black Friday sales to buy a new smart TV. Whether we use an Amazon Firestick or an Apple TV, it is convenient to be able to stream shows from a variety of services and customize our TV viewing experiences. Every year, the features of smart televisions continue to improve our user experiences. Just like any other technological device, smart televisions can suffer problems that require TV repairs. Depending on the issue your television is experiencing, you may be able to repair your television yourself.

In other cases, you will need to take your television to an experienced TV repair shop, such as your Gadget Doctors in Mount Laurel, NJ. Our TV repair experts have fixed thousands of televisions, and we are ready to give you a free quote on your TV repair. Contact us today to learn how we can repair your television quickly and cost-effectively. We have also included some tips for simple TV repairs you can do yourself below. Keep in mind that it is always advisable to check with an expert before taking on your own repairs.

Your TV’s Picture is Pixelated or Fuzzy

If you see your TV picture cut in and out or break up, you might be experiencing a weak signal. Additionally, if your TV picture is pixelating, which looks like the picture is cut up into many tiny squares, a weak signal is likely the culprit. The first thing you should do is check all of the connections between your television and your cable box and your power outlet. Make sure all of the connections to and from your television are tight and secure. If you are still experiencing lines on your television screen, you may need to contact your satellite or cable provider.

Your LED, OLED, QLED, or Plasma Television Has Cracks or Lines

If you are experiencing lines on your television, first bring up your TV’s menu. After you bring up your menu, if you still see lines running through the picture screen, or if your screen is cracked, you will need to replace the panel on your television. Unfortunately, this repair is not cost-effective. Check and see if you still have an extended warranty and whether that warranty will replace your television if there are lines in the panel. When a television screen becomes physically cracked, most warranties do not cover the replacement of your television.

In this case, you will need to replace your television. If you are unsure whether your screen is cracked or whether you will need to replace your television, it is wise to talk to a TV repair expert. If it is possible to repair your television, a TV repair expert may be able to do so for a lower price than buying a new plasma television, which can easily cost over $1,000, depending on the brand.

Your TV Turns on, But You See No Picture

One of the most common television issues happens when the owner turns on the television, but no picture shows up on the screen. Several different problems can cause this. First, you could have your television on the wrong input. Take your television remote and push on the button that says “source,” “input,” or “TV/video.” Keep pushing on the button until you have tried every input. If your television was on the wrong input, and you push the input button several times, the picture on your screen should eventually come back.

You Hear an Echo

What happens if you hear an echo when you turn on your television? In this case, you probably have an issue with your separate sound system. If you are using a surround sound system or soundbar, you may have the volume turned up both on your TV speakers and via your external sound system. If you have the volume turned up on your TV speakers, your television will play sound simultaneously with your external speakers, but at a delay, causing an echo. If you paid for a separate sound system, you would need to turn down the television volume in order to clearly hear your speakers. You can simply mute, disabled, or turn down your television volume to eliminate the echo. If you continue to have problems with your sound system,  contact an expert TV repair shop.

In other cases, you may be hearing your audio on a delay. For example, you may see a person’s mouth move, but the sound comes with a delay. In this case, the solution could be as simple as navigating to your TV’s audio settings and adjusting the settings for your “audio delay.” Doing so should get your television and audio back in sync.

Your Internet Will Not Connect to Your Television

Using Smart TVs requires a strong internet connection. You will not be able to stream your favorite shows on Hulu, Amazon, or Netflix without the internet connecting to your television properly. Your television might not connect properly to the internet if you just installed a new smart TV, had a power outage, or changed your internet provider. Many Smart TVs have a troubleshooting test that they can run to see why the internet is not working properly. You can also try resetting your internet router to see if that resolves any issues or contact your television’s manufacturer for ideas.
